Being both 5’1 1/2 and curvy has always made finding denim a struggle. We all have our own obstacles when it comes to shopping. We’re either too tall, too curvy, or too thin. No matter what shape or size we are, it’s all a struggle. And, there was even a time when stretch denim didn’t exist, making it 20 times harder for the curvy girl. Specifically, the early 2000s when low rise, boot cut, non stretch denim was in – not the best cut for the curvy petite female. I’d have to go up a couple sizes to fit my thighs and booty, but it wouldn’t fit around my waist and when I’d sit my butt crack would show – not cute.
I love that we live in an era that is getting more savvy, becoming more inclusive and creating denim that focuses on fitting us no matter what size or shape! But, I will be honest, I fall in love with denim that doesn’t fit perfectly, so a tailor is key. I shared a video about my favorite denim tailor and how she tailors my denim to help me get that perfect fitting denim on my Youtube channel, so peep that if you’re in the LA area. If I’m being lazy I or want a raw hem, I’ll just cut them myself, which I share how to do in that video too.
However, I love when I don’t have to tailor my denim!! It’s rare and there are very few places that fit my waist, hips, and height, but Topshop has been coming thru!! Their petite cuts aren’t boring either and actually flatter, plus the price tag for the quality is good too. I’m obsessed with these cropped high waist wide leg jeans. I’ve been wearing them almost everyday. I like how they look cropped polka dot top I’m rocking in this post, but it’s also cool with a cropped hoodie or chic bright lavender sweater. I just realized I’m all about a crop top and cropped pant pairing.
And, if you’d never tried Topshop denim, I’d suggest the Jamie jean! I love the way the high waist sucks you in, which makes the denim super comfortable all over, especially the booty!
Thanks Topshop! Pumped I got to try out your denim! xx
